The stone girl is no-one in particular. But it's likeness (Note the absence of pointy ears) reminds Virtus of 's Yenna Dragona, who was kidnapped by Viper in Viper's Colosseum. Virtus, still down in the dumps from his defeat in AFL 5, only agreed to join because of her capture. He started off strong when he defeated 's Bridget without much effort. Defeating Whatchamacallit and and 's Buttlina in the second round wasn't too hard either, as they seemed to have personal problems of their own.
But then came one too many blows to his confidence. He got distracted by the news of Yenna's brainwashing, curb-stomped and mocked by 's Goth and 's Rufus in close succession, and was finally too worn down emotionally to continue. Yenna ended up saved anyway by her team, but Virtus has never felt so useless and pretty much slinked away with his tail between his legs in the confusion. (I like to think that this took place without him knowing that Vigil got captured and before she was put out as the next prize, at which point he would have been forced by his conscience to stay.)
Now here we are, with a Virtus that's really eager (bordering on obsessed) to join the next AFL and take back what he feels he was entitled to, while at the same time dealing with inner self-confidence issues as he continues doing the hero thing.
Enter Blonde Widow and Syndrome. Will he decide to help them in their struggle?
Of course he will. That's what a hero does... At least that's what he keeps telling himself to force himself to accept it.
